A short background on the project
The Junkers Ju 86 was one of the first truly modern multiengined aircraft developed. It was developed to take on both civilian and military tasks, which it did with mixed results.

It was exported to numerous countries (e.g. Switzerland, Australia, South Africa, Bolivia, Chile, Sweden, Hungary, Manchuko, Japan, Spain, Portugal and Rumania) and taking on many different rolls from its first flight in 1934 to its last flight in 1958 thus making it an interesting aircraft to study. Despite its long and varied service it hasn't been very well covered in the litterature and there are many gaps of information to fill, or even correct current "known facts".

When looking for information on this subject I've visited archives in Germany, Sweden, England, Portugal and ordered material from different archives in USA, Australia, South Africa, Bolivia and other countries. this summer (2006) I'm planning to return to Germany and England for further archival research.

My aim is to one day publish a book in English on this topic. It is difficult to produce a serious result without the help of others, therefore I'm looking for new contacts and material like:

  • photos

  • loggbooks

  • information on W.Nr., Stkz and civil registrations

  • information on aircraft losses

  • material from airlines that used the Ju 86

  • information on units that operated the Ju 86

  • drawings

please contact me if you are willing to share or exchange information on this very interesting aircraft.

Best wishes,
Mikael
